Why Is Marin Making This Bike in 2026?

Marin has gone back to where it all started. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Marin has brought back the Madrone Trail—the first mountain bike it released in 1986. This new limited edition combines a chromoly steel frame and rigid fork with modern hydraulic brakes, wide-range gearing and a very special BearMoose handlebar. Only 440 were produced, and Marin kindly gifted me number 076. In this video, I look at the history behind the Madrone Trail, take it onto the trails and try to understand why a brand would release such a simple bike in 2026. Is it a useful modern mountain bike, or nostalgia with a price tag? This is the first of two videos.
