The Madhya Pradesh Congress has accused the state government and Indore Police of deliberately creating roadblocks to disrupt Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s student outreach programme, ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’. The Congress had originally scheduled the event for September 12 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. However, the local municipal corporation and district administration denied permission to use the stadium, forcing the party to postpone the event by a week to September 19. Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava explained that under a high court directive, the Nehru Stadium can only be used for sports activities or state-level government functions. The Congress subsequently leased a 12,000-square-metre private ground near Regional Park from the Indore Development Authority (IDA) for ₹10.08 lakh. Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera and MP LoP Umang Singhar, have criticised Indore Police for imposing 31 strict, conditional rules at the last minute on Friday evening. Among the most controversial was a requirement for local coaching institution operators to submit a written undertaking taking legal and physical responsibility for the security of students who choose to attend.
