Norfolk southern pulls forward then back up

What I thought was a normal run through at a crossing ended up being a lot of shunting. I'm not 100 percent, but it may have been possible this train was being switched from the main rail to an auxiliary rail across the bridge and had to pull the switch, because when I got home, I could hear a northbound Norfolk southern.
