Hi, I'm Waka! This time I took the bus up to Ohara, a mountain village north of Kyoto Japan, to see the moss gardens of Sanzenin and the framed garden of Hosenin. A miso dango on the way, matcha in front of a 700-year-old pine, and coffee in the afternoon light. ⚠️ Please turn on captions (CC) in the video settings to watch with subtitles. 🎞 Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:30 The Bus to Ohara 1:31 Arriving in the Village 1:56 Miso Dango 3:20 Still Green in October 4:45 Sanzenin Temple 4:58 Shuhekien Garden 5:27 Yuseien, the Moss Garden 7:27 A Stone Buddha and Six Jizo 8:43 Hosenin Temple 10:30 The Framed Garden 11:03 Matcha and a Sweet 12:52 The Hearth Room 14:18 Coffee in the Afternoon 📍 Places visited (in order) Ohara Bus Stop https://www.google.com/maps/search/%E... Legend has it that Kenreimon'in, who lived here after the fall of the Taira clan, loved the local pickles and named them for their purple colour. 🖼 A garden with a frame around it At Hosenin you sit on the tatami and look at the garden through the pillars and beams of the room. The pine at the centre is around 700 years old. In the previous video, at Rurikoin, the garden appeared reflected on a polished table. Two temples, twenty minutes apart, both built around a way of looking.
