Not sure why I did this to myself but I decided to build a race bike for the 2025 Biltwell 100 vintage bike race. I only have 2 weeks to build the bike, 1 to test and 1 to get to the Mojave Desert in Ridgecrest California. Follow along as I show you my process in part one of the build series. I just bought this perfect 2012 Triumph Scrambler 900 — and now I’m tearing it apart. Why? Because I signed up for the Biltwell 100, a gnarly desert race happening in just 2 weeks. Here’s the kicker… I’ve got surgery scheduled halfway through the build. So I’ve got one week to wrench, one week to recover, and then we find out if the bike — and my body — can make it to the finish line. In this video I fit large offroad tires on the scrambler 900 as well as add 1 inch of extra suspension travel to the bike. I also install new handlebars, hand guards and fenders. Watch how I do a high-fender-conversion as well. Making the Triumph Scambler 900 truly offroad capable is a lot of fun. This is the start of my 2-part series building a hooligan desert sled out of a showroom-condition Triumph. Big tires, upgraded suspension, fender hacks, and hopefully not too many broken bones. Let’s go.
