Before the Sky Had Names blends Siberian-inspired ritual folk and cinematic tribal electronica in a collaboration between Ardentara and Inara, exploring ancestral memory, grief and belonging. For me, this song is deeply personal. It reflects my Indigenous life path, the paths of my lost siblings, and my son’s journey. It holds the ache of loss alongside the question of what we carry forward. A pulse moves beneath the snow. A wolf made of smoke appears at a frozen river. The drum becomes a guide through memories larger than a single lifetime. What begins as listening for an older heartbeat becomes the courage to answer back. Rolling drums, jaw harp and bowed strings meet deep throat-singing responses and my warm tenor lead. Shamanic dark folk, ethno-progressive textures and mystical folktronica carry the story from a quiet invocation to the moment the mountain answers. “If I lose my name in the turning snow, let the drum remember where I go.” CREDITS Lyrics and composition: Inara Vocals, production and arrangement: Ardentara Which lyric or image stayed with you?
