Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar is being hailed globally as a hero for saving 174 lives aboard a flydubai flight after thwarting a mid-air sabotage attempt by his co-pilot. On 30 September 2026, during flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, the Omani co-pilot launched a sudden knife attack on Captain Machchhar in an apparent bid to crash the aircraft. During the violent struggle inside the cockpit, the plane rapidly plunged nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds. Despite being repeatedly stabbed and covered in blood, Captain Machchhar fiercely fought back and successfully released the lock on the cockpit door before collapsing. This enabled passengers and crew members to break in, subdue the attacker, and stabilize the aircraft. The flight was safely diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where the suspect was arrested.
