The Turkish get-up may not be the first exercise you choose for hypertrophy, but that does not make it any less valuable.
Dr. Charlie Weingroff, CSCS and DPT, explains why he would like to see some version of the Turkish get-up in nearly every training program. The movement can provide valuable information about shoulder mobility, scapular stability, thoracic rotation, hip extension, posterior-chain strength, ankle mobility, toe mobility, abdominal strength, and overall work capacity.
Charlie also explains why you cannot compare kettlebells and barbells pound for pound, how different implements create different physical demands, and why he prefers the idea of the “lowest system load” when selecting a training method.
