In this video, we follow two of his most famous stories: Charles Swann, who falls in love with a woman who is not his type, and the narrator who grows bored of Albertine the moment she is safely his, and desperate the moment she leaves. We also look at a childhood scene of a boy waiting for his mother’s goodnight kiss, what psychologists have found about uncertainty and attraction, and Proust’s deeper question: is the person boring, or have we simply stopped looking? This is a dark philosophy look at human connection: desire, jealousy, certainty, and the quiet ways love loses its fuel.
