Episode 6: MONGOLIA | Ongi Monastery, Yak Festival & Mongolian Horses | Gobi Road Trip | 4K

Our journey through Mongolia continues as we travel north from the southernmost point of our adventure, crossing the ever-changing landscapes of the Gobi. Along the way, we meet a local craftsman, get one of our vans stuck in deep sand, and deal with a burst tire - fortunately, our skilled drivers replace it in just 12 minutes! We eventually reach Ongi Monastery, one of the most important historical monastic sites in southern Mongolia, beautifully situated along the Ongiin River. Once home to around 1,000 lamas and 28 temples, the monastery was largely destroyed during the Stalinist purges of the 1930s. Today, its remaining ruins, stupas and restored temple offer a glimpse into Mongolia's religious history. From the surrounding hills, we enjoy spectacular views of the monastery ruins, the Ongiin River, ger camps and the Gobi landscape. But the adventure continues. We encounter horses at a watering hole, relax beside the river and then experience a traditional Yak Festival, including an exciting yak race. We finish the day at a family camp surrounded by beautiful Mongolian nature and have the opportunity to ride Mongolian horses.
