What happened to Alexander the Great’s lost city? Around 324 BC, Alexander the Great founded a city near the Tigris River in southern Iraq, known as Alexandria on the Tigris. In later periods, the city became associated with Charax Spasinou, an important center connected to trade and waterways. Located near the Tigris and the routes leading toward the Persian Gulf, the city occupied an important position between Mesopotamia and the wider eastern world. Over the centuries, the river changed its course, waterways disappeared, and the ancient city gradually vanished from the landscape. For almost 2,000 years, its remains remained hidden beneath the changing landscape of southern Iraq. Modern archaeology, satellite imagery, aerial photography, drone surveys and geophysical research have helped researchers identify ancient streets, walls, canals and other urban features associated with the lost settlement. But how did Alexander’s city disappear? Where was it located? And what remains of this ancient city today? This Urdu history documentary explores the story of Alexander the Great, Alexandria on the Tigris, Charax Spasinou, Ancient Iraq, Mesopotamia and the archaeology of a lost city. #AlexanderTheGreat #LostCity #AlexandriaOnTheTigris #CharaxSpasinou #AncientIraq #Mesopotamia #Archaeology #AncientHistory #UrduDocumentary #HistoryDocumentary
