Four New Bridge Spans Lifted East of Leeds (Transpennine Route Upgrade)

Four new bridge spans have been lifted into position at Austhorpe Lane Bridge, marking another major milestone for the TransPennine Route Upgrade east of Leeds. This update covers engineering activity between Leeds and Micklefield during a weekend closure of the main line, with work taking place at Holbeck Rail Depot, Ridge Road Bridge and Austhorpe Lane Bridge. At Holbeck Rail Depot, upgrade works are progressing to increase capacity for Northern Trains’ diesel multiple-unit fleet while Neville Hill Train Care Centre undergoes its own upgrade. The video also examines Leeds West Junction and the different railway routes it serves from Leeds Railway Station. Further east at Ridge Road Bridge, the large construction crane remains on site following the recent installation of the new bridge spans. Parapets have now been added to the new deck, while reinforcement steel is in position as construction of the replacement bridge continues. The biggest change can be seen at Austhorpe Lane Bridge, where four new bridge spans were lifted into position during the early hours of the morning. The new structures span the railway and represent a significant step towards completing the replacement bridge, with further progress made before the end of the weekend possession. The works form part of the continuing transformation of the railway east of Leeds, preparing the route for increased capacity, future electrification and improved TransPennine services.
