The Mystery Deepens On This Evening Ride | Ride 069

The Mystery Deepens On This Evening Ride Come along for another relaxing ride through Maryland neighborhoods, peaceful bike paths, wooded trails, quiet backroads, and, of course, another visit to the ever-unpredictable haunted golf course. No racing, no training plans, and no pressure to chase personal records. Just a bicycle, perfect fall weather, some relaxing nature sounds, and another development in what is becoming the strangest ongoing subplot of this entire series. One of my favorite parts of documenting the same roads and trails throughout the year is seeing just how dramatically they can change depending on the weather, season, and even the time of day. Tonight was about as good as it gets: comfortable temperatures, calm conditions, and that perfect early-autumn atmosphere that makes the entire route feel effortless. The golf course, however, had other plans. I saw more people out there tonight than I’ve ever seen before, which was already unusual. But even more interesting, the mysterious maintenance man is back, and this time I may finally have a few clues about what he’s actually doing. He appears to be tending to some very specific trees. Not all of them, just certain ones. Around several of these trees, the brush has been completely cleared away in a circle, almost like someone deliberately created a clean perimeter around each trunk. From what I could tell, he also seems to be spraying them with something. And now it gets stranger. Some of those trees have turned noticeably black and appear to be dying. So naturally, I now have questions. Is he selectively removing diseased trees? Treating invasive species? Conducting some kind of restoration project? Scientific experiment?… Maybe. Cult ritual?… Honestly, I hope so. Aside from the latest chapter in the golf course mystery, the ride itself was nearly perfect. The weather was comfortable, the evening light was beautiful, and the changing fall scenery continues to make the familiar route feel different every time we head out. More leaves are beginning to turn, the woods are getting darker earlier, and autumn is finally starting to take over completely. Whether you’re riding indoors, winding down after work, studying, working, falling asleep, or simply looking for a peaceful virtual cycling experience with relaxing nature sounds, thanks for joining me for another ride through Maryland.
