Operation Sindoor was a military operation conducted by the Indian Armed Forces on the night of May 6-7, 2025, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). It was a response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians were killed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The operation involved precision missile strikes on nine terrorist camps, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur and LeT’s base in Muridke, using SCALP missiles, HAMMER bombs, and loitering munitions. India described the strikes as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” avoiding Pakistani military facilities to minimize escalation. Reports indicate over 100 terrorists were killed, including key figures like Abdul Rauf Azhar. Pakistan claimed civilian casualties and retaliated, leading to brief border skirmishes, but a ceasefire was agreed upon by May 10, 2025.
