New Jersey Nor'easter - September 2026

An intense nor'easter developed off the Mid-Atlantic coast and brought heavy rains, wic ked surf, and very gusty winds to portions of the East Coast. Surf City/Ship Bottom, NJ looked like a great spot to get the maximum winds. When I first arrived at Surf City just after 2 AM on the 26th, the Mesonet station in town recorded a gust of 69 mph. 60 mph gusts were fairly common over the next few hours especially as rainbands moved onshore. After spending several hours in Surf City, awaiting high tide, I decided to head to Atlantic City/Brigantine, NJ. Here, the Atlantic was very angry and large breaking waves would make a splashing spectacle against the Brigantine Seawall. In Atlantic City, the high tide came in very fast; watching it rise 5-6 inches in 2-3 minutes. Thanks for watching!
