The trail runs through open chaparral and oak woodland, with cactus, seasonal wildflowers, and exposure to wind and sun. I hiked it in spring with unpredictable weather, snow at the start, sun and wind mid-trail, and blood from a cactus encounter. It's popular with mountain bikers, so stay alert on blind corners. Park at the Pine Valley trailhead off Interstate 8, about 45 minutes east of San Diego. Best hiked fall through spring before summer heat sets in. 00:00 Why It's Great 00:26 Location 01:13 Hike Map 02:24 MTB 02:42 Gear 03:32 Getting There 03:46 Directions --- Disclaimer: Some of these links are affiliate links where I'll earn a small commission if you make a purchase at no additional cost to you.
