Video Source: Channels TV ********************** Prof. Yemi Osinbajo delivers a powerful keynote lecture at the 59th birthday celebration of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in Yola. Speaking on “Democracy and Development: The Imperative of People-Centred Government,” he examines why many Africans still support democracy but feel that governments are not improving their daily lives. Osinbajo discusses declining trust in public institutions, corruption, unemployment, poverty, insecurity, falling voter turnout, and the growing disconnect between young people and electoral politics. He also warns that population growth, climate change and artificial intelligence could make governance even more difficult if leaders fail to act. Using examples from Nigeria’s social investment programmes, justice reform in Lagos State and the fight against judicial corruption, he argues that government must be built around the needs of ordinary citizens. He calls for budgets that prioritise the poor, accessible justice, stronger institutions, practical anti-corruption measures, and collaboration across government, business, civil society and citizens. This lecture is essential viewing for Nigerians, young Africans concerned about jobs and the future, policymakers, students, civil society groups, and anyone interested in the future of democracy in Africa. Watch, share your thoughts in the comments, and subscribe for more conversations on governance, leadership, democracy, development and Africa’s future. #Osinbajo #Nigeria #Democracy #YemiOsinbajo #Fintiri #AfricaDemocracy #ArtificialIntelligence #Afrobarometer #PublicAffairs *********************************** The official YouTube Channel for Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo, a Nigerian Lawyer and Politician who served as the Vice President of Nigeria from the 29th of May 2015 to the 29th of May 2023.
