Thor, the strongest of the Norse gods, gets his hammer Mjolnir because Loki cuts off Sif's golden hair and bets his own head that no dwarf can beat the treasures made to replace it. Thor uses the hammer against Hrungnir, the strongest of the giants, in a duel at the border, and keeps a dwarf named Alvis talking until sunrise when he comes to marry Thor's daughter. Then the giant king Thrym steals the hammer and demands the goddess Freyja as his bride, so Thor goes to the wedding himself, in a bridal veil, with Loki dressed as his maid. Based on Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda (Skaldskaparmal and Gylfaginning, translated by Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur) and two poems of the Poetic Edda, the Lay of Thrym and the Ballad of Alvis (translated by Henry Adams Bellows), with Haustlong for Thor's ride to the duel. This is a Norse mythology sleep story. 0:00 Sif's hair 1:58 The sons of Ivaldi 3:20 Eitri's forge 5:47 The gods judge the gifts 8:18 Loki's head 9:46 Odin and the giant 11:13 Hrungnir drinks 13:35 The clay giant 14:58 The fight at the border 17:52 Groa's spells 19:30 The dwarf at the door 22:58 The hammer is gone 24:05 Thrym on his mound 25:23 Freyja says no 27:25 Thrym's wedding feast #Thor #NorseMythology #SleepStory #Mjolnir #Loki #Mythology #BedtimeStory #SleepStoriesForAdults
