Ivar the Boneless, the son of Ragnar Lothbrok who couldn't walk and was carried into battle on a shield, comes to Ireland in the 850s and ends up sharing Dublin with the Viking king Olaf. He fights for and against the high king Máel Sechnaill and Cerball of Ossory, breaks into the ancient mounds at Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, and goes to England with the Great Heathen Army, which takes York and kills King Edmund. Back with Olaf, he besieges the Rock of the Clyde for four months, and when he dies in 873 the Irish call him king of the Northmen of all Ireland and Britain.
Based on the Fragmentary Annals of Ireland, the Annals of Ulster, the Chronicon Scotorum, the Annals of the Four Masters, the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, Æthelweard, Asser and Abbo of Fleury's Passion of Saint Edmund, with the saga of Ragnar Lothbrok for the legends of Ivar and his father. This is a Viking sleep story.
