Council Crest Park: Exploring the Best View in Town!

Exploring The People & Places of Portland: Big Pipe, Water Tower Bldg & Council Crest Park I set out to find a side quest around Portland, Oregon and ended up exploring several places I had never really taken the time to see before. From the Pearl District and the Big Pipe Project to the hills above Portland at Council Crest Park, this turned into a pretty unexpected adventure. I start at The Fields Park in Portland's Pearl District, where I talk about the Big Pipe Project and why the park was temporarily closed while the massive sewer project was underway. Across Naito Parkway, I also explore the area around the old Water Tower Building, which had recently burned down as wildfire smoke was moving into the Portland area. The area was still closed to the public, so I couldn't get a closer look. From there, I drove up to Council Crest Park, one of Portland's best-known viewpoints. On a clear day, the park offers views toward downtown Portland, the Willamette River and several Cascade volcanoes, including Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams, with Mount Rainier sometimes visible in the distance. The lingering wildfire smoke and haze made the view much more limited on this particular evening, but there was still plenty to explore. While I was there, I talked with some longtime Portland residents, explored everything Council Crest has to offer, and even handed the camera over to a kid for a little while. Along the way, I also talk about the idea behind Side Quest Driver and what I'm hoping this channel becomes as I spend more time exploring Portland, Oregon, meeting people and discovering things that are easy to overlook when you're always moving through the city. This is a relaxed, real-time exploration vlog about seeing what happens when you slow down and actually look around.
