Fremantle traffic bridge project – another sign inspections are being done very poorly or not at all

At the south western corner of Tydeman Road and Queen Victoria St, a fast growing tree has been planted in the traffic island. How do I know it is fast growing? Because when the Fremantle traffic bridge project started, it put in detour signage and a fence with a map on it on that island in front of the tree. In less than a year, the map and fence were almost completely enclosed by the tree. The traffic light on pole number 11 also disappeared into the clutches of that same tree some months ago. The lights are now invisible to anyone driving west towards the port along Tydeman Road. Now the traffic control team that's part of the Fremantle traffic bridge project are supposed to carry out regular inspections of all the traffic management signage. "Regularly" means every 2-4 hours. Somehow, over the last 6 months or so, the people doing the inspections have failed to notice that not only is much of the detour signage for cyclists and pedestrians missing - but a traffic light along the route is also "missing". Maybe they don't view reporting this to Main Roads as part of their job - even though Main Roads is paying them hundreds of millions of dollars to build a new bridge. Maybe they're legally blind. Or maybe - just maybe - they're not carrying out the inspections properly. I don't know the answer - all I can do is point out the result. PS - the detour sign on the shared path at the foot of the Stirling Bridge is also missing a leg. If that signage was inspected at least daily, that would have been fixed by now.
