A massive Kelvin wave is moving beneath the Pacific Ocean, and California is in its path. Scientists say it is the largest Kelvin wave of this El Niño so far. You can't see it, hear it, or feel it, but it could raise sea levels along the California coast just as winter storms and king tides arrive. In this video, we explain what a Kelvin wave is, how El Niño sets it in motion, why it travels up the West Coast at about the speed of a jog, and why a few extra inches of sea level can mean more coastal flooding and beach erosion. We also cover what scientists know, what they don't, and what you can do to get ready, including king tide dates, storm forecasts, flood insurance, and official NWS updates. If you live near the Pacific coast, send this to someone who needs to see it before winter. Like, subscribe, and turn on notifications for more videos on natural disasters, extreme weather, and the science behind them. #KelvinWave #ElNino #California #SealevelRise #KingTides #CoastalFlooding #ExtremeWeather #NaturalDisasters #PacificOcean #Oceanography
