Generations of fathers were taught to raise their sons using a religious ledger—a web of rules, expectations, and the "five-sense tree" of external behavior. But what happens when a father wakes up to the Gospel of the Gravel, experiences the pure grace of the New Covenant, and looks back to see his son still stuck in the very web he helped build?
The instinct is to rush in with a hammer and try to force them out. But you can't shout someone out of the web. As fathers, our only job is to drop the hammer, lay down the expectations, and offer a huge capacity for love. Sometimes, the heavy gravel they are walking is all they can handle right now. The Christ within them is working on a timeline we don't control. We don't have to fix our sons; we just have to be the soft soil they can rest on when they are tired of fighting the web.

lyrics..
Verse 1
I handed him the ledger I taught him how to score
I built the heavy gate and put a padlock on the door
I spun the web of right and wrong of judgment and of fear
Before the grace had opened up and made the gravel clear
Now I'm standing outside the walls breathing something free
Watching my own son get tangled in the same old tree
Chorus
But you can't tear down the web by shouting from above
The only thing that melts the wire is a patient steady love
So put away the hammer take the pressure off his brow
Maybe that's all he can handle right now
Just be the quiet harbor when his heavy ship comes in
The Carpenter is working where your efforts end
Verse 2
It breaks a father's heart to see the weight they carry still
The chains we wrapped around them before we learned the hill
You want to rush the garden you want to cut the wire
You want to reach right in and pull them from the fire
But grace is not a schedule any father gets to set
It's a seed that breaks apart before it's morning yet
He has to feel the gravel he has to walk the miles
While you just hold the space for him with open arms and smiles
Bridge
Remember you were in that web
Twisted just as tight
Before the love broke through
And turned the dark to light
That same Christ within you
Who walked you into peace
Is walking right beside your son
Working his release
You don't have to fix him
You don't have to be the guide
Just be the open door
With the porch light on outside
Outro
Drop the gatekeeper keys
Be the soft soil
Trust the One who's working
In what you cannot see
Maybe that's all he can handle right now
Maybe that's enough
Just love him
Just love him
Just love him
