Days of Decision 3 (July–August 1941): France Allies with Sweden, USSR Declares War, and Fronts Shift in Romania & Yugoslavia
In July–August 1941, the Allies build on the liberation of Brussels as Sergeant Marcel Dufour is promoted and Germany struggles across multiple fronts. France uses politics to secure Sweden as a minor ally and soon brings Sweden into the war, redirecting Swedish resources away from Germany. The USSR formally declares war on France due to fighting in French-aligned Romania, creating a bizarre three-way conflict while Soviet armor breaks through Romanian defenses and drives toward Bucharest. Germany again fails to finalize a collaboration treaty with Italy as the political session ends before Italy can respond, and Germany activates Greece to keep it from drifting Allied. Reinforcements arrive (notably Japanese carriers, new units in Europe, and U.S. battleships), weather is largely clear, and early impulses feature Allied air and ground actions, German paratrooper operations against Yugoslavia, and continuing pressure in Romania, with Yugoslavia and Romania forecast as likely to fall next.
