RockShox Brain 2.0 Won’t Lock Out | 2020 Specialized Epic Full Service

This 2020 RockShox Brain 2.0 came into the Full Suspension shop with a major problem: the Brain system is no longer providing its normal firm pedaling platform, and turning the blue Brain Fade adjuster produces little to no noticeable change. In this video we completely diagnose, disassemble and service the RockShox Brain 2.0 rear shock used on the Specialized Epic. We’ll go inside the shock and remote Brain assembly to see exactly how the inertia valve, Brain Fade adjustment, hydraulic circuit, seals and pressurized compensation system work—and find out what caused this one to stop functioning correctly. The RockShox Brain 2.0 was developed for the Specialized Epic as an automatic suspension platform. Instead of using a conventional manual lockout, a remote inertia valve near the rear axle responds to trail impacts while resisting suspension movement caused by rider and pedaling inputs. When everything is working properly, changing the Brain Fade setting should noticeably change how firm or active that platform feels. On this shock, it doesn't—and we're going to find out why. We tear the system down, inspect the internal components, examine the hydraulic oil and seals, inspect the Brain inertia valve and adjustment system, service the damper, bleed the system and test the shock after assembly.
