Brass Snakes Biblical Context: The "serpent of brass" or "brazen serpent" was a symbol created by Moses at God's instruction during the Exodus. Purpose: After the Israelites were bitten by poisonous "fiery serpents," those who looked upon the brass serpent on a pole were healed.
