Porche 917PA

In honor of the 50th Anniversary here is Porsche's initial foray into the Canadian-American Challenge Cup. Better know as Can-Am the car was sponsored by the Porsche-Audi division of VW America. Driven by Jo Siffert the engine was strictly stock 4.5 liters. In its debut at Mid-Ohio, the 917PA gave away 3 liters, 200 pounds and 250 horsepower to the McLarens. With the subsequent arrival of the 917/10/turbos and in 1973 the vaunted 917/30 all was about to change. The car is currently on display at the Collier Museum.
