Some places make you want to stay a little longer. Vridh Jageshwar was one of them! We loved our stay at Himdarshan Homestay, thanks to the breathtaking Himalayan views from our balcony, delicious homemade food, peaceful walking trails and the warm hospitality of Diwan and Manju Bisht and their adorable son, Deepankar. After a magical sunset and sunrise, we decided to stay another day. Mornings were for leisurely walks, hot tea and admiring the snow-clad giants—Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Trishul, Panchachuli and many more. An afternoon walk took us to a colourful little temple and Kot Kailash Kumaon, a charming property with traditional mud houses and bright blue doors. The highlight, however, was a short hike to a nearby viewpoint. The steep, lonely jungle trail, overgrown grass and slippery patches made us a little nervous, but we gathered our courage and made it to the top. And what a reward! The mighty Himalayas glowed orange and gold as the setting sun painted the sky in a hundred shades. Beautiful clouds completed this magical canvas. We stayed until sunset, despite our growing concern about walking back through the dark forest. Thankfully, we returned safely to our homestay, where soulful music, quiet conversations and lovingly prepared food made the evening special.
