MythBusters — S10 E19 "Cannonball Chemistry" — Aired November 11, 2012
Adam and Jamie set out to test whether jumping three stories into a swimming pool is survivable if a floating mattress is there to cushion the landing, bringing in a professional stuntman who demonstrated that a standard feet-first jump from 35 feet carries a person more than 12 feet underwater on impact, then spent a day training Jamie in techniques to reduce that entry depth before Jamie's own soreness and safety concerns meant handing the full-height attempts over to the professional, who ultimately managed to control his entry to within inches of a survivable depth, proving that with the right technique, timing, and training, the difference between a dangerous fall and a safe one comes down to control rather than luck.
