We drank from the hose. Rode our bikes until the streetlights came on. Called our friends on phones attached to walls. Survived playground equipment that would probably require a liability waiver today.
And somehow… we were fine.
Right?
😂
This video starts with the Gen X childhood we love to laugh about—the banana-seat bikes, latchkey afternoons, questionable dinners, friendship drama handled at recess, and the absolute danger of telling an adult you were bored.
But somewhere along the way, the list changes.
Because Gen X girls learned some other things, too.
We learned how to read a room.
How not to need too much.
How to take care of everyone else.
How to make pain funny.
How to stay.
How to push through.
How to say “I'm fine” when we absolutely were not.
And maybe one of the most important things we're learning now—in our 40s, 50s and 60s—is that the skills that helped us survive don't have to dictate how we live the rest of our lives.
We already proved we're strong.
Maybe the second half gets to be about discovering what else we are.

We're not starting over.
We're starting with decades of data.
If you're somewhere between “What the hell happened?” and “Wait…what if my best chapter hasn't happened yet?”—you're in the right place.

What did being Gen X teach YOU that you're only now beginning to understand differently?
