The Hidden Meaning of Proverbs 19:17 | EP 51

In this episode, Colleen Myers does a deep dive on one verse that popped off the page during her morning reading: Proverbs 19:17—“If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord, and He will repay you.” Word by word in the original Hebrew, this verse means far more than giving money to someone on the corner. “Help” means to bend down toward someone in kindness. “Poor” describes anyone brought low without the strength or resources to lift themselves back up. “Lend” is the language of a loan—the powerless person becomes the occasion through which you become a creditor to God Himself. And “repay” is tied to shalom: peace, wholeness, and completeness. Colleen connects this to Matthew 25:40, where Jesus identifies Himself with the least of these, and to what happens on Engage To Go outreach teams—why people who spend all night hugging, praying, and rescuing kids at massive rave festivals walk away feeling repaid by the Lord. She also shares a freeing word God gave her about giving to strangers: you are not that person’s Holy Spirit. You obey; what they do with your kindness is between them and God.
