HAYEM | Iran EP3 | طقوس الزار بين الإيمان والهوية

In this series, I spend three weeks traveling across Iran, exploring the country from within — beyond headlines, stereotypes, and surface-level narratives. It’s a journey through cities, remote villages, long roads, and conversations with ordinary people whose lives tell extraordinary stories. Iran is not a single culture or identity. It is a mosaic of ethnicities, languages, traditions, and ways of life. Each episode focuses on a different community, spending real time with them — listening, observing, and trying to understand how they see themselves, not how they are usually portrayed. In this episode, I step into the world of Zār on Qeshm Island — a ritual still practiced in southern Iran. Sitting with participants, following the rhythm, and listening to the stories that surround the ceremony, I try to understand what Zār represents for those who live it.
