Advancing Sustainability in Pasture-Based Livestock Systems

This presentation is part of the 2026 State of the Science Summit, a three-day conference bringing together leading researchers, industry experts, policymakers, and producers to explore the latest science and innovations advancing sustainable animal agriculture. The 2026 State of the Science Summit was hosted by the UC Davis CLEAR Center, SPARK Climate Solutions, the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture, with support from Global Methane Hub and PACT (Platform for Agriculture and Climate Transformation). Advancing Sustainability in Pasture-Based Systems features presentations from: Dr. Andrew Lyon – Farm Journal Trust in Food Dr. Troy Rowan – Assistant Professor of Animal Science, University of Tennessee Dr. Maria Silveira – Nobel Research Institute Dr. Juan Andrés Cardoso – International Center for Tropical Agriculture Stacy Davies – Roaring Springs Ranch Together, these experts explore innovative approaches to improving the sustainability of pasture-based livestock systems. Their presentations examine grazing management, soil health, forage production, genetics, and ecosystem stewardship, highlighting how science-based practices can enhance productivity, strengthen resilience, and reduce the environmental footprint of grazing operations while supporting long-term agricultural sustainability.
