This video teaches Learning Outcome 2 of Unit 3 Management of Human Resources in the Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC and Level 5 HND in Business: how to produce a workforce action plan for recruiting and retaining talent to address skills shortages. You will learn the process of workforce planning, how to run a skills audit and gap analysis, and a worked example of a workforce gap. We cover HR solutions such as build, buy, borrow, redeploy, redesign and retain, the elements of an end-to-end roadmap, methods for monitoring a plan, and how to set targets and KPIs. We then look at labour markets, hard-to-fill vacancies, workforce trends such as flexible and remote working, diversity and inclusion, and the legislation that affects recruitment, including the Equality Act 2010 and data protection. The second half explains models of recruitment and selection, internal and external sources, stages and selection methods, and competence-based selection. Finally we cover retention: culture, onboarding and induction, the role of line managers, coaching and mentoring, mental health and wellbeing, attrition, redundancy and dismissal. It is for students working towards Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria P3, M3 and D1.
