From apartheid’s courtrooms to today’s fight for justice:
In 1979, at the height of apartheid, a small group of lawyers led by Arthur Chaskalson and Felicia and Sydney Kentridge founded the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) to use the law itself as a tool against injustice. For more than 45 years, the LRC has defended human rights, equality, and dignity for South Africa’s most vulnerable communities.
From the start, American supporters stood alongside them. Friends of the LRC, a U.S. 501(c)(3) based in Washington, DC, has helped fund that work since 1981, linking U.S. donors, lawyers, and leaders with the LRC’s mission.
