Why did Ayanokoji and Kei’s relationship actually fail? The easy answer is that Kei was just a “textbook” for Ayanokoji to learn about love. But that explanation leaves out the most interesting contradiction. Ayanokoji planned for their relationship to end, yet part of him hoped it wouldn’t. He deliberately created distance, tried to repair it, watched Kei change, and still waited to see whether something inside himself would finally change too. It didn’t. In this video, I break down the full progression of Ayanokoji and Karuizawa Kei’s relationship, the purpose behind his confession, the “curriculum of love,” the rift he intentionally created, Kei’s own growth, and the March 30 breakup. This isn’t an argument that Ayanokoji never cared about Kei, or that Kei alone caused the relationship to fail. It’s about why a relationship that worked exactly as Ayanokoji designed it still couldn’t produce the one result he wanted. ⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: Major Classroom of the Elite light novel spoilers, including late Year 2 events.
