The Preachers Last Sermon (I'll See You Over Yonder)
An original song from the hills - A final farewell from an old mountain preacher after 50+ years in the pulpit.
This song started on a dirt road at dawn in front of Mount Zion Church, crossed the river, and came home to the pulpit for one last sermon. It's about keeping the light burning long after we've crossed over.
LYRICS
We're moving toward the morning light where all our sorrows cease!
Were going to the Father's house where shall rest in peace!
We're moving toward the morning, we're moving toward the light!
And when I cross that river - We'll see you on the other side!
Well... I've preached my last sermon.
But the Lord ain't finished with His church.
Keep the light burning, church.
Amen.
I'll see you over yonder.
I see the young ones in these pews,
And hear the old hymns rise.
The gospel lantern we have borne,
Still shines before your eyes.
I may not tend its flame much more,
But others will take hold.
Pass on the faith that carried me,
Till younger hands grow old.
If this song touched you, please share it with your church family. This one's for every preacher who kept the doors open, the lantern lit, and the hymns rising in a little white church in Appalachia.
