ॐ मेधादेवी जुषमाणा न आगात् ॥ Medha Suktam (Medhā Sūktam): the Vedic prayer to Devī Medhā, the power of intelligence, memory and understanding, chanted with svaras (Vedic accents). The Devanāgarī and IAST text, with matching svara markings, are shown on screen so you can follow along and chant with us. 🕉 SOURCE • Śānti mantra: यश्छन्दसामृषभो विश्वरूपः, from the Taittirīya Upaniṣad, Śīkṣāvallī 1.4, followed by ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः. • Veda: Kṛṣṇa Yajurveda, Taittirīya Śākhā: Mahānārāyaṇa Upaniṣad (Taittirīya Āraṇyaka, prapāṭhaka 10), anuvākas 41–44. • Devatā: Medhā, revered as a form of Devī Sarasvatī, with Indra, the Aśvins, Agni and Sūrya. • Followed by the Haṃsa Gāyatrī (हंस हंसाय विद्महे …) and ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः. 🪔 ESSENTIAL MEANING The śānti mantra asks Indra, foremost of the Vedic metres, to strengthen us with medhā: a healthy body, sweet speech, ears that hear much, and the protection of all that we have learnt. The sūktam then invites Devī Medhā to come to us gracious and kind. Blessed by her, one becomes a ṛṣi, a knower of Brahman, and gains true wealth. We pray that Indra, Sarasvatī, the Aśvins and the Gandharvas grant us medhā, and that Agni, Indra and Sūrya place in us brilliance, strength and radiance. It is chanted for clarity of mind, memory and learning, and is traditionally chanted during Navarātri, especially on Sarasvatī Pūjā, together with Durgā Sūktam and Śrī Sūktam. ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 Opening 0:39 Śānti mantra: Yaśchandasām ṛṣabho (Taittirīya Upaniṣad 1.4) 1:34 Medhādevī juṣamāṇā 2:12 Medhāṃ ma indro dadātu 2:44 Āmāṃ medhā · Mayi medhām 3:23 Haṃsa Gāyatrī and Śānti 3:44 Hariḥ Oṃ · Guru Mantra · Closing ▶ THE "SUKTAMS" PLAYLIST Watch all our Suktams (Sūktāni):    • Suktams | Sūktāni   🌸 ABOUT सर्वमङ्गलनादम् (SarvaMaṅgalaNādam) Study authentic Vedic chanting, Samskrutam pronunciation, Vedic recitation, and the living oral tradition of the Vedas at सर्वमङ्गलनादम् (SarvaMaṅgalaNādam). सर्वमङ्गलनादम् (SarvaMaṅgalaNādam) means "The Sound of Universal Auspiciousness."
