Marvel’s Wolverine Forgot Who Wolverine Is | Review

Marvel’s Wolverine has an identity crisis. In this PS5 review, I get into Insomniac’s combat, story, and take on Logan, because I keep pressing Triangle and wondering where the fuck he parked the web-shooters. I spent two to three years working at a comic book store. Favorite job I ever had. Those books gave me a love for Wolverine that apparently comes with enough patience to finish a game while repeatedly asking where Wolverine went. The claws are there. He says “bub.” Okay. Where’s the angry little bastard I came for? And I DID enjoy parts of this. Kabuki-cho has personality. Sabretooth sounds fucking great. A lot of the romance between Logan and Jean Grey actually works. Coming off Onimusha, mashing buttons and turning a room full of people into several smaller problems was practically a vacation. But eventually I wanted the combat to ask more of me, the berserker rage to feel dangerous, and Madripoor to stop looking like somebody scheduled an office happy hour. We’re talking gameplay on Hard difficulty, boss fights, Mystique, Omega Red, Jean, the ending, and why recognizing a costume only gets an adaptation so far. I love this character. That’s precisely why the missed opportunities bother me. Story and ending spoilers ahead.
