Measurement System Analysis (MSA) is about more than calibration. Even a calibrated measuring instrument can still produce inconsistent results, making it impossible to distinguish process variation from measurement error.
In this video I explain how to perform a Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (Gage R&R) study using the practical X-bar and R method. We walk through the complete process: selecting parts, organising operators, collecting measurements, performing the calculations and interpreting the results.
You'll learn what repeatability and reproducibility actually measure, how to calculate Gauge R&R, how to compare measurement variation against both observed process variation and specification tolerance, and how to recognise whether problems are caused by the measurement system or by the process itself.
Finally, I show how to use the results to identify improvement opportunities, such as operator training, better measurement techniques or improvements to the measuring equipment itself.
