The danger may have passed, but why can someone still feel unsafe?
In this Lead With Kindness episode, Mercy, a mental health nurse, explains post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), its less visible symptoms, and how treatment and compassionate support can help.
We explore:
• What PTSD is and why not everyone who experiences trauma develops it
• Re-experiencing, avoidance, feeling constantly on alert, and changes in mood and thinking
• The difference between PTSD and complex PTSD
• Trauma-focused CBT, EMDR and individual treatment choices
• Common myths and ways to support someone without judgement
Content note: This video discusses trauma, abuse and trauma-related distress. Please watch at your own pace.
💚 What do you think people misunderstand most about PTSD? You are welcome to join the conversation without sharing personal or graphic details of traumatic experiences.
