Fall asleep to gentle rain as we spend one long, foggy winter's day in Victorian London in the 1850s, with an ordinary bookbinder's family, from the lamplighter at dawn to the warming pan at bedtime. This calm history sleep story is softly narrated over the gentle sound of falling rain. About an hour and a quarter of story is followed by thirty minutes of rain alone, so you can drift off whenever you like. No loud sounds, no sudden music and no mid-roll ads to wake you. From the dark hours before dawn to the last lamp of the evening, we follow one household in Clerkenwell: the maid lighting the kitchen range, tea and toast by the parlour fire, the milkman and the postman's double knock, the street sellers and the coffee stalls, Covent Garden market, an omnibus ride along the gaslit Strand, the steamboats on the Thames, the quiet work of a bookbinder's workshop, hot buttered muffins and a new number of a Dickens novel read aloud by the fire, and the constable's slow night beat through the rain.
