Deep within the shadow of Mount Fuji lies Aokigahara—Japan’s infamous “Sea of Trees,” a forest surrounded by tragedy, mystery, and legend. What began as an overnight camping expedition quickly became something we never expected. As we ventured beyond the familiar trails and deeper into the forest, the markers began to disappear. We became disoriented, uncovered strange objects hidden among the trees, and eventually found ourselves somewhere we never planned to be. Beyond the forest was the remains of a forgotten settlement—Jukai Village. With darkness closing in and nowhere else to go, we set up camp and spent the night inside one of Japan’s most mysterious forests.
