The ball comes over the net, you swing, and it is already past you, or it clips the edge of your paddle. Most of the time your timing has not left you: you are starting your stroke too late. Here are three easy drills for table tennis players over sixty, plus one last key, with a self-check for each — no running, no new paddle:
1. Bounce and hit: learn the rhythm of the rally with your ears (and a version you can do at home tonight, sitting down).
2. Catch it at the top: find a home base for the easy balls near the top of the bounce, so you stop reaching low.
3. Move on his hit: start getting ready when the ball leaves your opponent's paddle, not when it bounces on your side.
The key: where your paddle waits between shots, and why holding it up at your chest costs you time.
Also: how to adapt all three if your knees, back or shoulder complain, and a five-minute drill in front of the television.
The book for this video is The 15-Minute Practice: Home and Club Drills That Fix Your Game Fast, part of The Fang Quick Fix Collection: https://fangspinmasters.netlify.app/?v=3-e...
Four books for table tennis players over sixty: Better by Saturday (ten quick fixes) and The 15-Minute Practice (home and club drills), plus, only in the complete Collection, Small Steps, Big Reach (footwork without running) and Your Personal Fix List.
