Her Mummified Body Lay Hidden in a Small-Town Garage for Six Years | Secrets Of The Morgue

Mummified remains are discovered in an abandoned garage in Nebraska. While investigators search the property for clues about the reclusive couple who once lived there, DNA harvested from a tooth gives the medical examiner their first break. And when a nationwide manhunt finally leads to the alleged killer, it’s up to science to catch him in a lie. In this episode of Secrets of the Morgue, neighbours thinking of buying an empty former gas station in Chester, a tiny town near the Kansas border, find a key in the door and step inside. Behind a van in the garage, under a tarp, is a body so thoroughly mummified it weighs just 30 or 40 pounds. With no organs left and the face shrunk beyond recognition, investigators can’t even tell if the victim is male or female. Nigerian-born forensic pathologist Dr. Matthias Okoye uses 3D CT scanning to look inside before he cuts, revealing a woman with multiple skull and facial fractures, duct tape wrapped around her head and a plastic bag over her face. Inside the house, time seems to have stopped: quilts cover the windows, Christmas decorations are still up, a TV guide from December 1997 lies on the bed and petrified broccoli sits on the kitchen table. Locals remember the couple who lived there as private antique dealers who covered their cars with tarps, and then were suddenly gone. With help from a teenage mugshot in Massachusetts, DNA extracted from a molar and palynology expert Nicole Wall analysing pollen in the victim’s stomach, investigators work to put a name to the woman nobody reported missing.
