What happens when the first example of love you witness becomes the blueprint for the relationships you choose as an adult? In this episode of LOLA SAYS, I'm getting personal and talking about my parents' marriage and how growing up around their relationship shaped the way I understood love, commitment, and what it meant to stay. Their relationship included abuse, a near-death experience, unequal parenting, secrets, and lies. Looking back, I can see how much those experiences influenced me in ways I didn't fully recognize at the time. One of the hardest things I've had to acknowledge is this: My parents' relationship is part of why I didn't know how to leave my own relationships. I knew how to love. I knew how to hold on. But did I know when it was time to let go? In this conversation, I'm reflecting on: What I witnessed growing up and how it shaped my understanding of marriage The lessons about love we can absorb without realizing it How family dynamics can influence the relationships we choose as adults The connection between what feels familiar and what we accept The patterns we carry into our own relationships Understanding our parents as people while still acknowledging the impact of their choices Breaking cycles without pretending the past didn't happen Learning that loving someone doesn't mean you have to stay Sometimes, before we can understand why we stayed in certain relationships, we have to look at what we first learned about love. What did the marriage you grew up witnessing teach you about relationships? And have you ever had to unlearn something you once thought was normal? Let's talk in the comments. 💜 Lola Says | From My Mic. #LolaSays #Marriage #FamilyPatterns #Relationships #BreakingCycles #ChildhoodExperiences #SelfAwareness #FromMyMic #LolaBontheMic
