Why don't we eat seal meat?
It has more iron than beef. More omega-3 than salmon. Enough vitamin C to prevent scurvy with no vegetables at all. It kept entire civilizations alive for 4,000 years in the coldest inhabited place on Earth. And in most of the Western world, you legally cannot buy it.
It isn't poisonous. It never made anyone sick. It didn't run out.
What actually happened was a photograph.
In this video we go to the frozen sea, where Inuit hunters waited motionless for hours over a single breathing hole, and where one animal became a grocery store, a power grid, a hardware shop and a clothing factory all at once. We look at how a meat-only diet somehow prevented scurvy, why eating lean meat alone can kill you, and how an explorer proved it by living on nothing but meat and fat for a year inside a New York hospital.
Then we look at the 129 men who starved to death surrounded by food they refused to recognise — and at the campaign in the 1970s that changed how millions of people felt about an animal they had never met.
Because the real answer isn't about seals at all. It's about why certain animals make you hungry and others make you sick. And who decided that for you.
Stay till the end. The last part will change how you look at your own plate.
