Why the USS Arizona's Unknowns Are About to Be Dug Up

The USS Arizona unknowns buried at Pearl Harbor may finally get their names. For more than eighty years, families believed every man on the USS Arizona Memorial wall was still inside the sunken battleship. Some are not. In the Punchbowl cemetery in Honolulu, about seventy graves read "USS Arizona" with no name, and DPAA plans DNA identification of up to 141 sets of remains, pending approval. The USS Arizona itself will not be disturbed; more than 900 of her crew remain aboard. #PearlHarbor #USSArizona #WWII CHAPTERS 0:00 Stones With No Names 1:07 The Ship and Her Crew 2:27 A Little After Eight 3:39 Unrecognizable 5:28 Buried at Sea 6:57 The Wall 8:26 The Crater 11:15 The Other Battleship 12:58 Sixty Percent 14:35 Operation 85 17:28 What Happens Next 19:08 A Name ARIZONA FAMILIES: DPAA still asks relatives of the crew for DNA reference samples.
