INDIANA 1988 Cold Case Solved After 30 Years — He Left Notes Bragging About It
---
On Good Friday, April 1, 1988, eight-year-old April Tinsley walked back down a quiet street in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to pick up the umbrella she had left at a friend's house. She never came home. Three days later she was found in a ditch beside a country road twenty miles away, and one of her shoes was missing.
Then the person responsible did something almost no one in his position ever does. In 1990 a message appeared on the doors of a barn outside the city, asking police a question only he could have known to ask. In 2004, notes sealed in plastic bags were left on the bicycles of little girls, each claiming to come from the same man. His DNA matched across sixteen years, but for three decades no one could put a name to it.
Hundreds of tips. A list of nearly seven hundred names. America's Most Wanted, an FBI command center, and a face predicted from DNA. Nothing worked, until May 2018, when a Fort Wayne detective moved within two weeks of a genetic-genealogy breakthrough in California and a genealogist began building one family tree branch by branch.
This documentary covers the full story: April's life and the city she grew up in, the afternoon she disappeared, the search, the barn message, the 2004 notes, the cold years, the genetic genealogy work that finally produced a name, the arrest and two-word answer that ended thirty years of silence, the courtroom, and the legacy her mother and her city built in her name.
Every case on this channel went cold, and every one of them ended with a name. 🔔 Subscribe to Crime Watch Investigations for a new solved cold case every week.
