Step back to January 1994 and experience a cold winter's day at Wakefield Kirkgate, one of Yorkshire's most atmospheric stations during the final years of British Rail. At the time, the station felt almost forgotten, with quiet platforms and only the occasional second-generation DMU calling. Despite the lack of passengers, the railway itself was anything but quiet, with a steady procession of freight trains passing through. Featured locomotives include Class 31, Class 47, Class 56 and Class 60 working a fascinating variety of freight services, providing a wonderful snapshot of everyday railway operations in the early 1990s. If you enjoy authentic British Rail archive footage, classic diesel traction and scenes from a very different railway era, this film offers a nostalgic glimpse of a location that has since undergone a remarkable transformation. What was your favourite locomotive class of the period?
